Location Submission
If you own or manage a property that you would like to have considered as a filming location, please complete the fields below and upload your images (in JPEG format). Once reviewed and approved, your location will be added to our location gallery.
There is no cost to list your location and Manitoba Film & Music (MFM) takes no fee if your location is subsequently used.
Tips and tricks for submitting photos
- Please take high-resolution photographs (JPEGs)
- The panoramic function is especially useful
- Please take photographs of both the interior AND exterior of the property, as well as the immediate surrounding area (it is helpful to know what kind of street the house is on, as well as what kind of houses are directly across the street)
- For interiors, stand in one corner of a room, and frame the photograph to include as much of the space as possible. Then stand in the opposite corner to take another photo, so both sides of the room are documented
- Photograph the room to show a sense of the space, rather than individual features
- Make sure there are no people in your shot
- Please don’t include photos that are blurry or too dark/light
FAQs
What happens after I submit my photos?
We keep them in our locations database, which we use to showcase Manitoba locations to producers who are interested in filming in the province. If a producer is interested in your property, we will contact you to set up an appointment for them to view the property. If the producer would like to pursue filming on your property, you would enter into negotiations with the project’s location manager.
Am I committing to filming by submitting photos of my property?
No. By sending us photos you are not making a commitment of any kind. You are simply saying that you are open to the possibility of filming. If a production is interested in using your property as a filming location, the location manager would discuss the details with you to arrange filming.
How much will I get paid if my property is in a film?
On average, anywhere from $500-$5000 per day. The amount will depend on a number of factors, such as what type of project it is (e.g. feature film, TV series, etc), how big the budget is, the amount of space the crew needs to occupy, and how large your property is, etc. This will be a discussion between the owner and the location manager to establish a rate.
Will I have to move out while filming happens in my home?
It depends on how much of your home is being used, and whether the budget of the project allows for hotel rooms. It is in the production’s interest to accommodate you as best they can. This would be a discussion between the owner and the location manager.
How can I verify a production company’s credentials?
You may receive a letter, phone call or home call from a location scout or manager asking if they may schedule an appointment with you to take photos of your property. Please feel free to call our office at 204-947-2040 for a reference. We often work closely with the local production company and location manager, and location scouts will notify us before scouting, so that we are prepared for your call.
How often will my property be used for filming?
It’s impossible to give a finite answer to this, as it really depends on whether the content of a project requires a property like yours. However, locations with better photos will get shown to more producers, thus having a higher chance of being used as a filming location.
