Galleries and culture

Winnipeg is home to internationally recognized museums and art galleries.

The Canadian Museum for Human Rights, the first of its kind in the world, is housed in an award-winning, architecturally stunning building at The Forks.

The Winnipeg Art Gallery (WAG-Qaumajuq) holds in trust the largest public collection of modern and contemporary Inuit art in the world. Other areas of note include historical and contemporary Canadian art, historical British and European art, decorative art and photography. The gallery will also loan artwork.

And the small but prominent modern art gallery, Plug-In, is the first Canadian art gallery to show at the Venice Bienniale.

The Manitoba Museum highlights Manitoba’s history and various ecozones through interactive and immersive exhibits. One of its most remarkable galleries is the one that houses the Nonsuch, an exact replica of the 1650 merchant ship that travelled to and from Hudson Bay, Manitoba, to trade furs with Britain.
